A Niche Hobby Blog 3.0

Dear fellow bloglings,

I have returned! [que evil laughter] Though, I've never been truly gone, I just stopped posting here. I focused more on gaming and other aspects of the hobby. But now that I've fixed up my hobby niche, I thought: Why not give this hobby blogging thing another try? The effort isn't all that big, and there are lots of benefits to this. A few weeks ago I recieved my first Kickstarter reward. On the mark I have to say. Turnaround is always an issue with crowdfuded projects. Well, not with this one it was not. Estimated March 2014 (4th month after funding) and it came in mid March. So Tablewar got that in the books for them. But what abut their product? ...Is what you are supposed to ask now. Go ahead, do it!

I don't like change

I changed the blog design. Basically more gray and orange and "It's got hexagons, so you know it's from the future". That quote is from the Infinity O-12 Podcast, it shall honor the fact that I don't do any historical or fantasy war games (besides "Full Metal Fantasy"), and so it's kinda in theme. Oh and don’t miss the Space Hulk PC-game in two days from now on Steam. I’m stoked for that.

Last week I dipped my toe in the deep water of metal kits and their fits. This is a tricky issue and companies seem to have distinct policies regarding pining. I mean let’s face it: Two flat surfaces are not enough to connect two bits with super glue.

Or something like that. Aren't we all feelin’ a little Mediterranean thanks to the weather? I haven't been painting during the last couple of days. It is not that I hadn't wanted to, it's just that I could not. No matter how much you water delude your paints, no matter how much retarder you drop in the mix, the paint will dry in on your damn wet-pallet before you picked up the brush. I'm exaggerating to make point here, but it is pretty hot around where I live. Therefore I’m building rather than painting at the moment.

Cover is a big issue in most table top games. And the approaches to it by the game system are quite different, varying from rather abstract to very detailed. Also toy soldier formations vary greatly throughout the systems. 40k mostly needs obstacles for 5 to 10 models or more. Infinity however needs individual cover, scattered over the field. That's why I got this kit.

Today I wanted to show you something I made for my Iyanden project: a magnetic display board. I once purchased a far too big amount of magnets. So I had lots of those lying around.

In the last post you saw my test Tau, who I put together in 2001. Now over a decade later they're getting paint. Yayyyyy! That's how fast I work. But I think I have pinned down a super-fast few color paint scheme, which is not super pretty but a good portion over table top standard. I think I have to get I bucket of citadel casandora yellow wash. A very good finish/dye/wash for yellows.

I just wanted to give you a quick review of an hdf terrain kit a got recently: Bandua Wargames's Infinity licensed Q-Building Set. My fist hdf/mdf kit and I have to say: I LOVE the smell of laser roasted wood fibers (way better than new car smell).
