Infinity Operation: Wildfire Unboxing

Hello fellow Peacekeepers,

today I have an unboxing for you. Usually I don't  really do timely content. But I got my order from Corvus Belli rather early, so I figured I'd share this experience with people who are still waiting, or who are not sure whether to get this or not. So... Operation: Wildfire is the newest two-player-starter box for Infinity the game from Corvus Belli. Prepare for a picture heavy post.

There have been several of these two-player boxes before this one, namely Icestorm, Red Veil and Coldfront. Each has Seven minis for two factions, some terrain, introductory rules, missions, dice, markers and a pre-order miniature, if you got the box's first print run. This one is no diffrent. The factions in it are O-12 (basically the space UN) and the Combined Army. Though this time there is only one part of the combine, which is the Shasvastii, a race of sneaky, stealthy, backstabby survivalists.

I had pre-ordered directly from Corvus Belli this time. Because I was fed up with my FLAG store missing the Infinity release dates for or ever month since CB issued those. And that gave me the opportunity to order some Warsenal stuff with it, that no one in Europe carries. Even though I didn't order for a couple of days after the pre-order period started, the package arrived with me on Friday. That was rather fast. And it came in this nice Box. That reminded me of the nice white boxes GW had back in the day. You know the ones with the Trolls on them. Remember those kids?

Oh and yeah, I added an airbrush setup to my hobby space.
Didn't want to make a post about that.

So the Box itself. They went for the same Artist I believe, but this time it's a much sturdier card stock they printed on, so they could have it one single box. In the earlier sets it was two, an inner card stock one and an outer very thin box with the printing on it.

As you see everything is neatly organized. And there is a flyer for their Fall of 2019 Kickstarter named Defiance. A dungeon crawler game that uses several minis that are in this box too.

As always the minis and materials are in tray. Each in individual bag with all it's parts and with a code in case something is wrong or missing. And there is the book.

The book is fairly standard. Introduction, Story, Rules, Missions and in overview over everything beyond this box in the Infinity universe and game. Also you get a pain and assembly guide.

The most intriguing part for me was the new terrain kit under the tray. It also contains the markers and as with previous terrain sets it will be sold separately to give players a cheap way to create a nice looking table. But the material and type of terrain is very much different to older boxes.

The card stock is much thicker this time around. And it is printed double sided. Everything is much more substantial, both the markers and the terrain.

As you can see, now there are multiple templates, rulers and silhouette markers, which is nice. It's a two player game after all. And the double sided markers mean you double the amount of different markers, because every marker has something else on its backside.

The terrain looks nice and is very sturdy. Most parts go together well. Only the two little houses are a bit tricky. You should also be careful when pushing these bits out of the card trays. There is an upside and a downside to them,  always push so that the stress is on the tray and not the bit. You'll know once you do it yourself.

Another neat feature is that there are different designs on the parts of the houses, so you can choose which one you want to use. That also dictates on which side the staircase will be. And the buildings stack. There is also walls and holo-adds.

It all packs into the big houses, when you turn them upside down.

Here are the dice and some promotional cards for Defiance.

They made some  changes to the bases. They now have little tabs in their rim indicating the direction. And the strip you cut out for the miniature now has two directions to go with that direction marker better.

I'm not going over the minis in this post. They are the top notch quality miniatures we expect of Corvus Belli. They are among the most detailed minis on the market. And they sure are then best quality metal minis ever made in the 28mm scale. They go together extremely well because the fit of the parts is superb. I'll get to individual minis eventually but I have other stuff on my mini plate at the moment. CB made a pretty exhaustive video about the miniatures in this box.
